On the International Day of Care and Support, Sri Lanka's inter-ministerial social care working group, co-led by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, and the Ministry of Labour, launched the development of a national action plan for care, with technical support from the International Labour Organization and participation from key line ministries.
This initiative aims to ensure #DecentWork for care providers and recognize the vital role of both paid and unpaid care work in driving social well-being, economic prosperity, and #GenderEquality. Guided by the ILO’s 5R Framework, the roadmap will be developed through a consultative, evidence-based process and launched in 2026.
