Labour Studies Symposium 2025
Theme: The Future of Work: Challenges
and Opportunities in Sri Lanka

The
National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS) invites research proposals for
presentation at the Labour Studies Symposium 2025. This event provides a
platform for diploma students to showcase their research on key labour market
challenges and policy solutions. Selected papers will be featured in NILS
publications and discussed with industry experts and policymakers.
Eligibility
- Students who have completed
diploma courses at NILS.
- Undergraduates from government
or private universities, or other recognized higher education
institutions.
- Current government officers
from departments or agencies.
- Research professionals
affiliated with officially recognized research institutes.
- All proposals must be related
to labour studies, workforce development, or employment policies.
Suggested
(but not limited to) research topics include
- The impact of digitalization
on employment in Sri Lanka
- Skills development and youth
employability
- Challenges and opportunities
in the informal sector
- Workplace diversity and inclusion
- Labour laws and worker rights
- The role of entrepreneurship
in job creation
Submission
Guidelines
- Abstract: 200–300 words outlining
research objectives, methodology, and relevance.
- Full Paper (upon selection) : 3,000 – 5,000 words,
including references and citations.

Papers
may be submitted in English, Sinhala, or Tamil.

submitting in Sinhala or Tamil, an English abstract (max 300 words) is
required.
- Submission Deadline: 15th June 2025
- Notification of Acceptance: 29th June 2025
Please ensure that your full
paper is written in clear, error-free academic English / Sinhala or Tamil. Any
terminology specific to your field of study should be defined briefly.
